7 Reasons to Use GRP

Why Should You Use a GRP Roof System?

When you’re deciding on what kind of waterproofing system to use for your flat roof -whether it be a domestic or commercial project- and asking yourself “why use a GRP roofing system?”, the options of roofing products and systems are endless.

Depending on what type of roof you are covering, what lifespan you need and what kind of budget you have, there are 100’s of different products to chose from, which can make deciding on a product that’s right for your roofing project a daunting process.

You may be wondering what the best GRP system to use is, or why use a GRP roofing system at all?

At GRflex, we have spent the last 15 years developing our fibre glass roofing system with the latest technology, to be the industry leading roofing system that it is for commercial and domestic projects.

This quick guide will give you 7 Reasons why you should use a GRP roofing system for your flat roof project.

So, if you’re still unsure, let us reassure you. Without further ado:

Strength

GRP (fibre glass) is one of the strongest roofing systems available to the flat roof market as it has an incredible strength to weight ratio. What this means is that you need less weight of material to provide good strength properties, than you would with other roofing products.

Typically, GRP systems are fully reinforced with fibre glass matting making it one of the strongest liquid applied roofing systems available on the market.

Weatherproof

If you want evidence of just how waterproof and weatherproof GRP (fibre glass) is as a waterproofing membrane, it is used on the hulls of some ships and boats because of its waterproofing nature.

Longevity

GRflex give a 20-year guarantee on all our roofing systems, but you can of course expect the life expectancy of these roofs to be much, much longer.

Overcoating

The substrate must be dry prior to application, and inspection of the board’s underneath must be undertaken to ensure the boards are not sodden or rotten.

GRflex can be applied directly onto a new timber deck, much like GRP or single-ply systems, but in a fraction of the time. We recommend using either Norbord OSB3 or alternatively marine plywood. This ensures a strong and suitable substrate and adheres to the GRflex warranty guidelines.

Cure Time

Applied by brush or roller, GRflex is one of the fastest and most cost-effective waterproofing options for both commercial and residential projects.

Cures at 0 Degrees

This is one of the crucial reasons we have spent nearly two decades developing GRflex, as we have managed to produce a GRP (fibre glass) roofing system that will cure down to 0 degrees.

Fully Flexible

Typically, GRP (fibre glass) roofing systems cure rigid and are prone to flaking and cracking. With over 200% elasticity GRflex is tough, yet flexible enough to deal with most roof movement, unlike rigid GRP (fibre glass) systems.

This is the first of it’s kind in the GRP market as there has never before been a fully flexible fibre glass system. To see ‘how to’ videos and demonstrations, head over to our Youtube channel by clicking here.
